The magical holiday feeling comes alive once again on Saturday, December 14. You do not want to miss Savannah’s annual Holiday Tour of Homes, a community project of Savannah’s Downtown Neighborhood Association. The holiday-themed tour of homes in the downtown area will let you experience the holidays Savannah-style.
It all kicks off with a free City Market Open House. You’ll be entertained by carolers, twinkling lights and even Santa Claus himself. Browse the shops and boutiques in the area and sample delicious treats. It’s the perfect start to the Holiday Tour of Homes and the Christmas season.
Then on Saturday, December 14, the Downtown Neighborhood Association offers its Afternoon Tour with Trolley transportation to six of Savannah’s historic homes. One of the greatest parts is that the tour guides are actually homeowners, giving you quite the inside look. Not all of the homes are mansions, but there’s an intense focus on how the families live and decorate the historic homes with their own styles and fashions.
Next, Victorian Tea will be served by the Downtown Garden Club ladies decked out in period costumes. It will take place in a beautifully restored mansion on Gordon Street!
And when evening comes around, you will have another chance to stroll down one of Savannah’s oldest streets and visit homes decorated in all their Christmas finery. The homeowners’ personal style will be reflected, but you can also watch lighted bicyclers sing Christmas carols.
The Afternoon Holiday Home Tour starts at 11 a.m. and is priced at $35. Also $35, the Evening Holiday Home Tour begins at 5 p.m. Victorian Tea is $25 and is set for 3 and 4 p.m. There are discount packages available for booking both Saturday home tours and Victorian Tea. You can purchase your tickets here. Simply print out your receipt or confirmation email from PayPal to pick up your tickets at Tour Headquarters (the Savannah History Museum).
There are some new aspects of the Holiday Tours of Homes you should know about as well, including a special exhibit by the Savannah Victorian Society. The exhibit was curated by Hugh Golson, a local historian, and produced by the Victorian Society of Savannah in cooperation with DNA. There will be two tables decked with all the dressings for an elaborate Victorian meal. Tickets for this event will be available at the Savannah History Museum by the Visitors Center from Friday through Sunday. If you are a Holiday Tour ticket holder, you will be given a reduced price of $5 per person to enjoy the exhibit.
