“Run, walk or crawl” your way to Savannah for the one and only Enmark Savannah Bridge Run! It’s back next month and set for Saturday, December 7, 2013. The race schedule includes a 5k, 10k, Double Pump and Kid 1/4 mile.
Let’s take a closer look at those races. The 5k run/walk starts on Hutchinson Island at 8:15 a.m. Participants will race west towards the Talmadge Memorial Bridge, gaining access to the bridge by the southbound ramp. There’s no pretending it’s an easy feat. You’ll have to conquer a 5.5% grade and 1.4-mile span before exiting onto Oglethorpe Avenue. It finishes back in the Historic District near the Savannah Civic Center. Now it’s time for the post race party…unless you’re a champ and are participating in the Double Pump!
For those racing in the 10k, you’ll start in front of the Chatham County courthouse on Montgomery Street at 9 a.m. The first 1.5 miles of the 10k will take you thorough Savannah’s Historic District before going over the Talmadge Memorial Bridge for one of two trips. It peaks at 196-feet above the Savannah River. What a view! This one has you battling a 5.5% grade and 1.4-mile span TWICE. Again, you’ll finish in the Historic District.
Now for the Double Pump. Combining the 5k and 10k, the Double Pump will start on Hutchinson Island at 8:15 a.m. with the 5k. After completing the 5k, runners will head to the 10k start line by 9 a.m. and will take another two trips over the Talmadge Memorial Bridge. A few requirements for this one: You must be able to complete the 5k in 40 minutes or less in order to be at the starting line by 9 a.m. There are no late starts. If you’re wondering about prizes, the awards will be given out for your combined times of the 5k and 10k. You must register for the Double Pump in order to be eligible for the age group prizes.
A little less competitive is the Kids 1/4 Race, and it’s free to participate! It starts at 8 a.m. at the finish line near the Savannah Civic Center.
You can pick up your packet on Friday, December 6 at the Savannah Civic Center. Stop by between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. On Saturday, catch a free ride from 6 a.m. to noon from the Savannah Civic Center to the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center.
After you’re done racing, make your way to the Post Race Party. Presented by HostSouth, the party runs until 11:30 a.m. It includes good food, music, awards and prizes. Don’t forget to keep your race number visible to receive free Brunswick stew and beer (must be 21 and older).
So about those awards and prizes…The top runners will receive awards. Race results will be recognized in the 5k age groups, 5k overall, 10k age groups, 10k overall, Double Pump age groups and Double Pump overall. To make it even more fun, be creative and you could win the costume contest! Awards will be given out to the most creative person or persons who give their all for art and running. This contest will be judged by staff and volunteers during the morning activities.
Now that you have all the details, you can sign up here. You’ll also need a place to rest after your fun-filled day at the races. Consider staying with us at the Presidents’ Quarters Inn, a historic Bed and Breakfast in Savannah. Click here to read more on our accommodations.
