Let us tell you about a few fun things that the city does to celebrate this holiday!

The number one reason to spend this St Patrick’s Day in Savannah is the Parade. Held rain or shine, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a wonderful event filled with exciting and thrilling events. The 191st St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Savannah will take place on Tuesday, March 17th. The event begins at 10:15 A.M. on the dot. Check out the parade’s map here so you can decide where you want to sit and enjoy the festivities.

Make the holiday into a weekend long celebration, starting with the Irish Heritage Dance on Friday, March 13th. The event is held in the Alee Temple and begins at 8:00 P.M. On Saturday, enjoy the Tara Feis Irish Celebration at Emmet Park. This festive event begins at 11:00 A.M. and ends at 5:00 P.M. The family-friendly Feis will be a feast for the ears, eyes and palate! With live performances, delicious cuisine, crafts, fun games, and true Irish hospitality, the Tara Feis is the best way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah. The Feis features performances from Savannah Pipes and Drums, Glor na Daire Irish Dance School, McLean Avenue Band, Harry O’Donoghue and so many more talented artists.

After enjoying the Tara Feis, head over to Tybee Island to participate in the Irish heritage Celebration Parade. The Parade starts at 3:00 P.M. on March 14th and winds around downtown Tybee Island. The Island will be decked out in green with a family-friendly parade featuring grand floats, marchers, and musical bands. The Irish heritage Parade is done in a unique and quirky way that only Tybee Island can do! Everyone is encouraged to dress in green in celebration! The Parade starts at the Tybee City Hall and proceeds down Butler Avenue! Come out and enjoy the festivities!

Another way to celebrate the holiday is on River Street. The fun isn’t confined to just one day; River Street celebrates this holiday for a week. Filled with multiple stages of non-stop live entertainment, games, scrumptious food, cold beverages and so much more, St Patrick’s Day on River Street is a event you don’t want to miss!

Owens-Thomas HouseSavannah, GA, is filled with rich history just waiting for you to discover. From significant landmarks to the grand architecture, Savannah takes great pride in her history. Whether you want just a glimpse of the past or a whirlwind tour, you are sure to find just what you are looking for in the beautiful southern city. We, here at the President’s Quarters’ Inn, want you to have a wonderful experience while in the area. One historic place you will not want to miss touring is the Owens-Thomas House! This lovely building should be at the top of your list of things to do in Savannah! Here is all you need to know about the Owen-Thomas House.

Truly the jewel of Oglethorpe Square, the Owens-Thomas House is a wonderful place to spend the afternoon as you wander through it and learn about its rich history. Considered to be one of the finest examples of English Regency architecture, the Owens-Thomas House was completed in 1819 and occupies a full block! The home features a columned entrance portico that will transport you back to a different time and place. As visitors enter the home, a sweeping staircase and beautiful arched second story windows will greet them. The interior of the house boasts a stunning stairway of mahogany, cast iron, brass, and elegant furnishings!

The Owens-Thomas House, also know as the Richardson-Owens-Thomas House, was designed by English architect William Jay and was originally built for Richard Richardson. Richardson was a Bermuda-born banker and cotton merchant! Richardson, however, suffered financial setbacks shortly after the home was completed and lost it to the Bank of the United States three long years later. Later congressman, lawyer and one-time Savannah mayor George Welshman Owens purchased the beautiful home for $10,000. Today, this architectural gem is a National Historic Landmark.

Guests to Savannah can visit the Owens-Thomas House Mondays from 12:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and Sundays from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Tickets to the Owens-Thomas House may be purchased individually or in a combination that allows you not only to tour this lovely house but also the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences. After touring this spectacular home, take time to wander through the beautiful English-inspired parterre garden and the original carriage house. The carriage house contains one of the earliest intact urban slave quarters in the South. Kids and adults will have a wonderful and memorable time at the Owens-Thomas House!

Now that you know about the Owens-Thomas House, it is time for you to plan your trip to Savannah to see it! The President’s Quarters’ Inn offers a selection of lovely rooms and suites, which are all elegantly decorated to match the southern charm of the city. Before you head out into the beautiful day to tour the Owens-Thomas House, the Inn offers a signature gourmet breakfast. You can book your stay today to help ensure that you will have an unforgettable trip to the Owens-Thomas House! We can hardly wait to see you and your family soon!

Ships of the Sea Maritime MuseumFor all you lovers of everything maritime, we, here at the President’s Quarters’ Inn, have the perfect place for you to spend an afternoon or even an entire day. From galleries of ship models to maritime paintings and artifacts, the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum offers guests a wonderful opportunity to learn about Savannah’s history. Whether you are looking for a place to avoid the rainy weather or just to enjoy some of Savannah’s rich and intriguing history, Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum is a great place to spend a day! Read on to find out more about the fantastic museum and all that it has to offer!

Ships of the Sea Museum, located in the William Scarbrough House, features nine excellent galleries of ship models, maritime paintings and artifacts. The Museum’s goal is to interpret the rich story of Savannah’s maritime history through the vast collection of ship models. As guests wander through the Museum, they are transported back to a different time in each of the nine beautiful galleries. From colonial vessels to ironclads to ocean-going steamers to modern navy ships, the collection of models are sure to impress the sharpest critic and satisfy the heart of any maritime enthusiast. All of the models in the Ships of the Seas Maritime Museum have been strenuously researched and delicately detailed.

One of the many ships the Museum features is The Steamship Savannah. Being the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean, this beautiful 98 feet long vessel is one of the most important ships in maritime history. The Steamship Savannah, financed by William Scarbrough himself, was launched in New York in 1818; engines were installed soon thereafter in New Jersey. This stunning vessel unfortunately sank off Fire Island, New York in 1823. Lucky for you the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum has a wonderful replica of the vessel for guests to view!

The Anne, which sailed to America in the fall of 1732, carried the first 114 colonists to the new colony of Georgia. This 200-ton British galley was only 87 feet long and 26 feet wide. This beautiful ship holds a special place in the Museum’s galleries.

The Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum also features a model of The Titanic. A sad but popular story, The Titanic was built in Belfast, Ireland in 1909-12 for the White Star Line, a British company owned by the American tycoon, J.P. Morgan. At 882 feet long and weighing 45,000 tons, The Titanic was the largest and most luxurious ship of its era. On April 14, 1912, during its maiden voyage from Southampton by the way of Cherbourg to New York, the ship struck an iceberg and sank in just over two hours. Unfortunately, of the 2201 persons on board, 1498 perished. The Museum has a beautiful model of The Titanic in its exhibits!

The Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum offers a wonderful array of models to enjoy. Now that you know about a few of the Museums finest ships, it is time for you to find a place to stay during your time in Savannah. The President’s Quarters’ Inn is located only a short 15-minute walk from the wonderful museum. Choose from any of our luxurious accommodations to stay in during your time in the city!

Ossabaw Island GAThe coastline of Georgia is scattered with an array of beautiful islands full of intriguing things. Whether you have seen all that interests you in the historic city of Savannah or you just want a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, take a day and explore one of Georgia’s most beautiful islands! Ossabaw Island GA, is approximately twenty miles by water south from historic downtown Savannah; the perfect distance for a day trip. Don’t know what there is to do on Ossabaw Island GA? Here are 2 ways we, here at the President’s Quarters’ Inn, enjoy Ossabaw Island.

Ossabaw Island GA, one of the Sea Islands located on the Atlantic Ocean, is only twenty miles by water south from Savannah. Ossabaw is the largest of Georgia’s barrier islands and contains 9,000 acres of wooded uplands with freshwater ponds and 16,000 acres of marshlands! At 26,000 acres, this beautiful island is the second largest barrier island off the coast of Georgia. Located between Wassaw Island and the Ogeechee River on the north and St. Catherine’s Island on the south, Ossabaw Island GA, is only accessible by boat or charter.

1. River Boat Tours

The first and best way to enjoy Ossabaw Island GA, is by taking a charter tour of the area. Bull River Cruises offers a tour of the entire Georgia coastline and includes a trip to Ossabaw Island. The 42-passenger Excursion vessel and the 2-20 passenger Island Express vessel provide a unique experience for everyone aboard. From the comfort of the boat, enjoy the picturesque scenery. This is a great way for the young ones to enjoy the island without having to keep everyone together! Grab your camera and hop aboard one of the Bull River Cruises for an experience you soon won’t forget!

2. Day Trip

Another fantastic way to explore the beautiful island is by taking a day trip and hiking around it. To get to the island you must have a boat or find a charter to take you. There are several wonderful captains willing to take people to the island. Several local boat captains provide charter service to Ossabaw Island. Service from various docks and marinas on the mainland is available; however, some charter captain’s licenses are limited to 6 passengers. Larger groups may want to consider chartering a pontoon boat, which can transport 20-40 people at a time. Bull River Cruise is great for larger groups and Tybee Island Charters is fantastic for groups of 6 or less.

Wildlife enthusiast will be in paradise at Ossabaw Island GA. The island is filled with an abundance of sea turtles. Have fun discovering all the intriguing creatures the island holds while you wander around! The island also offers tours! Getting around the island is an adventure in itself on one of the tours. Groups are transported on buckboards in the back of pick up trucks to see the beautiful island!

Now that you know a little something about Ossabaw Island GA, it is time to start planning your trip to the area. The President’s Quarters’ Inn is the perfect place to relax after a long but exiting day on Ossabaw Island GA. The Inn offers 16 luxurious rooms from which you can choose.
