Savannah boat toursTo call Savannah, GA, a historic town is really an understatement of sorts. The city is completely based upon its history, which is evident in the fact that the Savannah Historic District has been deemed a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service. With that, it seems obvious that there are plenty of fun summer trips that you could take by foot or by trolley to experience the history. But what if you could experience the town from a different angle? If walking around or riding in a trolley isn’t quite your pace, then you must experience one of the Savannah boat tours. You’ll experience some adventure by sea when you take a tour and soar down the Savannah River.

Savannah Riverboat Cruises
You can enjoy dinner, live entertainment, and an amazing tour when you reserve a spot with Savannah Riverboat Cruises. Some of the tours include a harbor sightseeing cruise, a Sunday brunch cruise, and a Thursday murder mystery cruise. The boats are located at 9 East River Street.

The harbor sightseeing tour lasts an hour and is designed for both adults ($21.95) and children ($12.95). The captain of the ship will entertain you with exciting tales and historic facts about the city.

The Sunday brunch cruise is one of the more popular cruises offered, as it lasts an hour and a half and features a delicious buffet. The food includes a turkey carving station, shrimp & grits, ham & broccoli quiche, and a dessert buffet. Boarding begins at 11:30 a.m. on Sundays and costs $43.95 for adults and $23.95 for children 4-12.

The Thursday night murder mystery cruise is a unique opportunity that you have to solve the crime! Another cruise that lasts an hour and a half, you will get to see professional actors unveil the mystery right before your eyes. The price is $29.95 for adults and $19.95 for kids, and the cruise is only open from April through August. Be sure to make reservations in advance.

This marks just a sampling of the cruising options, as you can also take part in the Friday & Saturday moonlight cruise or the Monday gospel dinner cruise. In addition, there are several seasonal cruises that will pop up throughout the year.

Before embarking on your journey, it is necessary to check out your sailing vessel. Savannah Riverboat Cruises has two immaculate boats: the Savannah River Queen and the Georgia Queen. Both boats have three decks and will get you everywhere you desire on your tour.

After perusing the waters and capturing the sights of the city on your Savannah boat tour, relax for the rest of the night with a stay at a luxurious Savannah boutique hotel – the Presidents’ Quarters Inn. Located near the boat tour dock, Presidents’ Quarters Inn offers 16 perfectly appointed accommodations in the heart of the historic district. Are you a fan of Presidents JFK, FDR, or LBJ? You can stay in a room named after one of them or another President who has visited Savannah. Go ahead and book your stay today regardless of which Presidential suite is right for you!

Savannah GA BeachesDeciding on the Presidents’ Quarters Inn as your Savannah bed and breakfast of choice means you are making the decision to settle down for a few days in Savannah’s historic downtown. While there is plenty to see in the downtown Savannah area, the great part about the city is that you are near the ocean and have the option to relax at the beach. When most people think about Savannah, GA beaches, the first one that comes to mind is the beautiful Tybee Island. However, with a little bit of exploration, you can spend a day at some other beaches, as well.

Tybee Island – Savannah’s Beach

Tybee Island is a quick trip from downtown and provides beachgoers everything they are looking out of a beach trip. All five miles of the beach (including riverfront and beachfront sections) are open to the public and provide the perfect backdrop for a well-deserved day of relaxation.

When you need a break from the sun, just take a walk to one of the dozens of restaurants or bars to grab a bit to eat or quench your thirst. And if a day’s worth of fun isn’t enough for you, stick around at night and check out some live music near the beach at a local joint.

Some Other Savannah Beaches

Tybee Island is the most well-known and most visited beach in Savannah, but others exist that provide an adventure all of their own. One of those beaches is Little Tybee Island. Unlike the name suggests, Little Tybee is about twice the size of Tybee Island. This escape is perfect for anyone trying to avoid a crowd and just be one with nature. You can only get to Little Tybee Island by boat, as it is an uninhabited preserve. In addition, you can take your tent and camp out. Just remember, Little Tybee is void of any amenities, so bring everything with you that you might need.

Wassaw Island provides another stretch of uninhabited coastline that you can only access by boat. It is different from Little Tybee Island in that you can’t camp here. Maintained and protected by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Wassaw Island is available to visitors during daylight hours only. You are certainly able to relax on the seven-mile stretch of beach, but Wassaw Island is also ideal for someone looking to hike around and explore the barrier island.

Regardless of which of the Savannah, GA beaches you choose to visit, you will have the option to make the Presidents’ Quarters Inn your resting grounds for the trip. Before you head to the ocean for the day, Presidents’ Quarters will feed you a signature gourmet breakfast, and after you return, you will be able to stay in any of the 16 rooms that the Savannah bed and breakfast has to offer. You can book your stay today to help ensure that you will have a weekend you won’t soon forget.

Savannah Trolley ToursA trip to Savannah means you will be visiting the oldest city in the state of Georgia. Dating back to 1733, Savannah, GA, is rich with history and timeless architecture, including several points of interests regarding the American Revolution and the American Civil War. When you are looking to explore and capture the history of the city, there is no better way to do so than to experience one of the many Savannah trolley tours. Here are a few of the trolley tours that we believe will be both entertaining and educational when you make Presidents’ Quarters Inn your choice of Savannah bed and breakfast.

Old Savannah Tours
Since 1979, Old Savannah Tours has been guiding passengers through the streets of its beloved city. This is no passive tour, either, as Old Savannah Tours is able to bring the town’s history to life by encountering key figures like General James Oglethorpe or even Forrest Gump. If you are a Savannah native, there is even another bonus for you. Just bring a paying guest, and you will get a free pass (up to three free passes).

Old Savannah Tours offers a variety of exploring options, ranging from a 90-minute historic overview tour to an all-day tour where you can get on and off the trolley at your convenience throughout the day. You can also hop aboard the trolley at night and experience Trolley Tales of Historic Haunts that will show you why Savannah is plagued with its share of paranormal activity.

Oglethorpe Trolley Tours
Take a trip through Savannah, including stops at the historic squares and along the waterfront on a beautiful blue trolley. Just like the city itself, the Oglethorpe tour guides exemplify the true meaning of Southern hospitality. You will have the chance to see the Mansion on Forsyth, the Exchange Bell, and everything in between.

At Oglethorpe Trolley Tours, you can enjoy a one-day or two-day trolley pass with unlimited hop on/hop off flexibility. You can also experience two different Haunted Tour packages or mix up your tour by purchasing The Land and Sea Savannah Package. That option will allow you time in the historic district as well as time on board a replica paddle wheeler on the Savannah River.

For those looking for a more personal experience with your tour guide around the city, try to beat the crowd and plan your Savannah trolley tour between Monday and Thursday. By doing this, you will have top-notch service during the day on your tour before heading to the Presidents’ Quarters Inn for the evening.

By selecting Presidents’ Quarters Inn as your Savannah bed and breakfast, you will have the option of 16 different accommodations, all of which embody the southern charm of the city. Things to Do in SavannahIt’s a trip you’ll never forget. We invite you to make your way to the Presidents’ Quarters Inn in Savannah, Georgia and start making memories that will last a lifetime. We want to ensure your trip is one you’ll always remember. That’s why we have made this list of unforgettable things to do in Savannah!

Walk along River Street.

There is so much to see and do along River Street. From boutiques and galleries to restaurants and artist studios, the 9-block brick concourse is perfect for walking and watching the ships pass by.

Explore the Savannah Historic District.

Tour historic homes, squares and neighborhoods in the historic district of Savannah. Take a guided walking or bus tour, whatever strikes your fancy. There is much to be learned by simply taking a stroll in this area.

Soak up the sun on the Beaches of Tybee Island.

Tybee Island is known to many as Savannah’s beach. The stretch of pristine sand that runs along the coast of Georgia has been a popular vacation destination since the 1800s. Get away from downtown for a bit as you explore the 5-miles of wide, clean beach and dip your toes into the water.

Play in Forsyth Park.

Originally named Forsyth Place, Forsyth Park was converted into a park site in the mid 1850s. Today it occupies about 30-acres of land in the Savannah Historic District. The streets that surround the park are Gaston Street to the north, Drayton Street to the east, Park Avenue to the south and Whittaker Street to the west. It includes a wide range of walking trails and paths, along with a large picturesque fountain, tennis and basketball courts and gardens.

Take a trolley tour.

One of our favorite things to do in Savannah is to take a trolley tour. The carriage tours in downtown Savannah will allow you to take in the architecture while learning about the city’s history. We suggest Old Savannah Tours, Oglethorpe Tours, Historic Savannah Carriage Company or Savannah Walks.

Visit Fort McAllister Historic Park.

This 1,725-acre Georgia state park is located near Keller and Richmond Hill in South Bryan County. It sits on the south bank of the Ogeechee River. You will experience one of the best scenic parks in the region at Fort McAllister. It showcases the best preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy.

Take in a show at the Savannah Theatre.

Here’s a little history… The club was named after the Dixieland Drive-In on Victory Drive to promote interest in various types of special auto activities, create good fellowship and sportsmanship among members and to support charities as a nonprofit organization. In addition to the club’s monthly meeting at Lovezzola’s Pizza, the group goes to car shows on weekends throughout Georgia, the Carolinas and even Florida. They always wear their club shirts to show their pride in the club. Recently, the club has added a cruise on the first Wednesday of each month to Charleston, South Carolina. They enjoy the beautiful beaches of Georgia by taking their cars from the 1920s through the 1980s to Hilton Head, Tybee, and Jekyll Island. But the biggest event of the year for the best car club in the southeast is by far their annual show to raise money for charity.

The Dixieland Cruisers 26th annual Car and Motorcycle Show is set for March 29, 2014. It’s all happening at Windsor Forest Baptist Church at 12521 White Bluff Road in Savannah. Sponsored by Helton Motors, the show will have lots of shade and plenty of room. Live entertainment will be provided by The Mike Schulze Trio. There will be a 50/50 drawing, door prizes, vendors, a swap meet, ditty bags, dash plaques, top 40, lots of special awards and concessions. Judging will take place from noon to 1 p.m. with awards at 3 o’clock. Pre-registration is only $15 so it’s best to do so now! To sign up on the day of the show, it’s $20. You can register between 8 a.m. and noon.

Keep in mind, your car doesn’t have to be perfect and most aren’t. Hot rods, street rods, lead sleds, antiques and rust buckets are all welcome! To register your vehicle in advance, fill out this form.

Heritage Golf TournamentThe countdown is on to the 46th annual RBC Heritage Golf Tournament. It’s set for April 14-20, 2014 on Hilton Head Island and tickets are on sale now. More than 100,000 people attend the RBC Heritage each year!

It all began back on Thanksgiving weekend in 1969 when Sea Pines designer Charles Fraser gave the first tournament on the newly created Harbour Town Golf Links a twist. He called it the “Heritage Classic,” and the best in the game came. Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus were among the first to commit. The course has changed over the years since that humble beginning, moving to the week after the Masters in April. The purse also moved from the original $100,000 to $5.8 million (the winner’s share $1,044,000). Media coverage grew over the years as well, with CBS and The Golf Channel blocking out 15 hours of live coverage last year.

Previous tournament champions include some of the most distinguished players in golf history, like Jack Nicklaus, Bernhard Langer, Johnny Miller, Greg Norman, Nick Price, Tom Watson, Davis Love III, and the late Payne Stewart.

Harbour Town Golf Links is now recognized as one of America’s top courses. It is also repeatedly selected as a favorite by PGA Tour professionals.

Here are some additional facts about the Heritage Golf Tournament you may not know…

- The highest score recorded by a Heritage winner was 283 by Arnold Palmer in 1969.

- The lowest score recorded by a Heritage winner was 264 by Brian Gay in 2009.

- Since the RBC Heritage first teed off in 1969, the only golfers who have won a major and haven’t played at Harbour Town are Paul Lawrie and Ian Woosnam.

- Combined, RBC Heritage champions have won 69 major tournaments.

- The RBC Heritage purse is eight times greater than it was in 1988.

- Davis Love III is the tournament’s only five-time winner. He holds the longest current streak of consecutive appearances at the RBC Heritage.

If you’re ready to purchase your tickets to the Heritage Golf Tournament, there are several options. The Doc’s BBQ Club 15 is new this year, featuring access to a private entertainment venue on the 15th green from Thursday to Sunday. It includes one practice round ticket for Monday to Wednesday and one ticket per day for Thursday through Sunday. You can also enjoy access to the Clubhouse and tournament grounds on all seven days. Priced at $375, that includes a daily buffet. Practice round tickets start at $35 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and daily tickets are $50 for Thursday and Sunday through March 31 and $60 per day for Friday and Saturday. Prices will increase by $20 per ticket starting April 1st so it’s best to buy early. Click here for more package options.
