Savannah Travel Guides

For some, Savannah travel equates to single travel for the single vacationer, such as a single parent, adult sing, single man or single woman.  For couples, ideal Savannah travel may be a romantic escape.  For friends or family, a cultural get-together may be at the core of exploring rich Savannah adventures.

In our historic town, the story begins simple “Savannah Est. 1733,” the new slogan for the Savannah Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.  There are gentle, welcoming smiles awaiting.

The opening scene goes something like this, “It all began in an historic Savanna Town, once an Indian-populated wilderness that Englishmen marketed as paradise.”  Their pursuit was to lure artisan settlers to establish a new British colony, to serve in a desolate buffer zone protecting the English to the north in Charles Town and staying off the disettled Spanish in Florida.

A 1770 Savannah map shows street names around The Presidents’ Quarters -- “York,” “King,” and “Prince.”  Today King Street is President Street, and Prince Street is State Street, changes that followed in protest to British rule following the American Revolutionary War.   Likewise, the former Duke Street is now Congress Street.

In the 21st Century, Savannah is a top Georgia destination described by National Geographic as “dreamy Savannah.”  Pioneering British 18th Century villagers who first came to a muddy wilderness would be amazed at the creative international city that now welcomes world visitors to partake of its intoxicatingly beautiful, romantic appeal, and hob-knob with its diverse citizenry … in an array of unpredictable characters.  If reincarnation is real, the colonial-era agrarian-based workforce may be among the passionate and creative gardeners, bakers, craftsman, architects, and technology geeks as the city enjoys a resurgence to build, rather than simply to enjoy.

From two patricians’ mansions (ca. 1855) of The Presidents’ Quarters, turned Savannah GA bed and breakfasts in 1987, guests may immediately participate in the confluence of the eclectic-to-classic lifestyles of the Savannah, GA, historic district -- its art, history, architecture, business, entertainment, and shopping.

As one Savannah GA traveler shares, “If you are ever on your way down to Florida along the I-95, make the detour into old Savannah, GA, and spend the night. You'll be glad you did. This has do be one of the most beautiful places in America.”
